how do you make them? ive herd the term "3ds" being tossed around but i have no idea what it is. 3dmax? is that it?
if so where do you get it/how much does it cost? id be very interested in making a few edits and finally learning how to render pictures
i already have blender but again no idea how to use it or render pictures

Unless you can rig your own 3d skeleton on that 3d humanoid model you shouldn't get .3ds or .obk. Get .fbx, .psk, .smd or any other format that supports bones. And google xnalara/xps for additional info.
